Prepare the avocados

Cut the avocados in half lengthwise, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado until it reaches your desired consistency (some prefer it chunky, while others prefer it smooth).

Add the aromatics

Add the finely diced onion, seeded and diced tomatoes, minced garlic, and minced jalapeño or serrano pepper (if using) to the bowl with the mashed avocado.

Squeeze in lime juice

Squeeze the juice of one lime over the avocado mixture. The lime juice not only adds flavor but also helps to prevent the avocado from browning.

Season with salt

Sprinkle salt over the mixture according to your taste preferences. Start with a small amount and adjust as needed.

Mix thoroughly

Use a spoon or fork to thoroughly mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Make sure the avocado is evenly distributed with the other ingredients.

Taste and adjust

Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You can add more lime juice, salt, or even minced garlic or jalapeño if desired.

Chill if desired

If you prefer your guacamole chilled, cover the bowl with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the guacamole to prevent browning, and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour before serving.

Serve

Once chilled (if desired), transfer the guacamole to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves if using. Serve with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos, nachos, or any of your favorite Mexican dishes.
