1. Gather Ingredients

Collect all the necessary ingredients for making a Cosmopolitan cocktail. These typically include vodka, triple sec (orange liqueur), cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice. You may also need ice cubes for shaking and a lime twist or cranberries for garnish.

2. Prepare Glass

Choose a martini glass and chill it in the freezer for a few minutes. A chilled glass helps keep the cocktail cold for longer.

3. Measure Ingredients

Using a jigger or a measuring tool, accurately measure out the ingredients. Typically, you'll need around 1.5 ounces (45 ml) of vodka, 0.5 ounces (15 ml) of triple sec, 0.5 ounces (15 ml) of cranberry juice, and 0.25 ounces (7.5 ml) of fresh lime juice per cocktail.

4. Fill Shaker with Ice

Take a cocktail shaker and fill it with ice cubes. The amount of ice should be enough to fully chill the drink when shaken.

6. Shake

Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This helps to thoroughly mix the ingredients and chill the cocktail.

7. Strain into Glass

Once the cocktail is well-shaken and chilled, remove the martini glass from the freezer and strain the contents of the shaker into the glass. Use a strainer to prevent any ice shards or fruit pulp from getting into the drink.

8. Garnish and Serve

Optionally, garnish the Cosmopolitan with a twist of lime peel or a few cranberries on a cocktail pick. Serve the cocktail immediately while it's still cold.
