Cook the Pasta Shells 

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta shells according to the package instructions until they are just al dente. Drain them and set them aside to cool.

Prepare the Sausage Mixture 

In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and cooked through. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is soft and translucent. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

Combine Ingredients 

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage mixture, ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything together until well combined.

Preheat the Oven 

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Stuff the Shells 

Using a spoon, stuff each cooked pasta shell with a generous amount of the sausage and cheese mixture. Place the stuffed shells in a single layer in a large baking dish.

Cover with Sauce 

Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the stuffed shells, covering them completely. Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the sauce.

Bake 

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake the stuffed shells in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve 

Once baked, remove the foil from the baking dish and let the stuffed shells cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and enjoy!
