Step 2

Peel, core, and slice your apples. You'll need about 4-5 medium-sized apples for this recipe. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or any other firm baking apples work well.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a squeeze of lemon juice. This will help to sweeten and flavor the apples.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, prepare the crisp topping. Combine 1 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cut in 1/2 cup (1 stick) of cold unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
