1. Preheat the oven 

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

2. Boil the potatoes 

Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and let the potatoes simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.

3. Drain the potatoes 

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander and let them cool slightly.

4. Prepare a baking sheet 

While the potatoes are cooling, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with olive oil.

5. Smash the potatoes 

Place the potatoes on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one. Use a fork or a potato masher to gently press down on each potato until it is flattened but still holds together.

6. Season the potatoes 

Drizzle the smashed potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle them with salt and pepper. If desired, you can also add minced garlic, chopped herbs, or grated Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.

7. Bake the potatoes 

Transfer the baking sheet to the preheated oven and bake the smashed potatoes for about 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy around the edges.

8. Serve 

Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious smashed potatoes as a side dish or snack!
