Rim the glass 

If desired, rim the edge of a margarita glass with salt. To do this, rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip it into a plate of salt until the rim is coated. Set aside.

Muddle the jalapeño 

In a cocktail shaker, place 2-3 slices of jalapeño pepper. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush and muddle the jalapeño slices. This helps release the spice and flavor.

Add ice 

Fill the cocktail shaker with ice cubes.

Add the liquids 

Pour in the tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and agave syrup (or simple syrup) into the cocktail shaker.

Shake 

Secure the lid on the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This helps to mix the ingredients well and chill the drink.

Strain 

Place a fine-mesh strainer over the rim of the prepared margarita glass and strain the contents of the shaker into the glass. This will catch any small bits of jalapeño and ice, resulting in a smoother drink.

Garnish 

Optionally, garnish the drink with a lime wedge. You can also add a slice of jalapeño for an extra visual cue of spiciness.
